On Friday, August 16, HHS students were welcomed back to school with the much-anticipated Mixer.
The dance lived up to its name perfectly. It’s main purpose is to “mix” all the high school together, from Seniors to Freshmen. The dress code is casual, (to allow for better mobility on the dance floor), and dates are strictly prohibited, which encourages a wider range of students to attend the dance.
It’s fair to say that these goals were more than accomplished. With two crowd surfers, a backflip, swing dancing, line dancing, and enough sweat to mop the floor with, HHS students thoroughly enjoyed the night.
Senior Jaye Hrencher agrees. “I was so happy and sad at the same time. I was happy because the dance was so much fun, but I was sad because it was my last one.”
But the upperclassmen weren’t the only ones who mixed it up on the dance floor. Many freshmen were unofficially accepted into the world of HHS on Friday. One freshman even provided the most impressive dance move of the night.
“[It felt] good, because everyone complimented me and stuff after I did that,” says Freshman Malachi Issaic when asked how it felt to complete the backflip.
What a better way to welcome students- both new and old- back for a new school year? Let's hope that the 2019-2020 school year is as fun and successful as the Mixer.
