Dear Parents and Patrons,
As you likely know, there was a serious vehicle accident this morning that involved some of our Red Hawk families. It is with much sadness that we share Herbert Whitebird, age 10, and his mother, Darlissa Whitebird both died from injuries suffered in the accident.
Herbert was a 5th grade student at Hiawatha Middle School. His smile and sense of humor will be remembered and he will be deeply missed. Another passenger in the Whitebird vehicle was also injured. We do not know any more details at this time.
This tragic loss of life will undoubtedly impact Herbert’s classmates and countless other members of the Hiawatha Middle School family. District and school officials are working to ensure appropriate support and resources for our students and staff as they cope with the loss.
Please keep the Whitebird family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Lonnie Moser
Superintendent
