Greetings Red Hawk families.
Covid-19 continues to present challenges and our college offerings through Highland Community College are no exception. We have received many questions regarding these classes. I have been in touch with Highland Community College regarding our partnership in offering learning opportunities to our students.
If your student had selected any of the HCC classes we offer through USD 415 (listed in the table below) during their class registration choices in May, information was mailed out earlier this summer. That information is again attached to this letter and includes information on how to enroll through HCC as well as payment information.
If your student needed to take the Accuplacer prior to taking the class, that information was mailed out earlier this summer.
Course | Type | Enrollment Due Date |
College English (Composition I, ENG101) | Concurrent | September 11, 2020 |
Art Appreciation (A101) | Concurrent | September 11, 2020 |
College Algebra (MAT104) | Online Dual Credit | August 28, 2020 |
College Biology (BS101) | Online Dual Credit | August 28, 2020 |
Public Speaking (SP106) | Regional | August 26, 2020 |
If your student is taking a concurrent and/or regional class, textbooks are provided. HCC will work with our instructors to provide the textbooks to students. If your student is taking an online dual credit course, those online textbooks are ordered by the student through our online bookstore. HCC will provide additional information to our classroom teachers on how to assist these students. Students also receive emails (to their HCC email account) with information on how to order books. College Biology does not have a textbook, it is built within the online course, students do not need to order anything. College Algebra is an access code students’ purchase through the online bookstore.
If your student is taking any college classes on their own , they need to adhere to the enrollment and payment guidelines set forth by that institution. Students need to acquire any textbooks or other required materials on their own.
Please note that some of these enrollment due dates are prior to the start of our school. It is incumbent upon your child to see they complete the Highland Community College enrollment by the date Highland requires. If your child needs assistance, please contact Mrs. Christi Waggoner, cwaggoner@usd415.org .
If your child has decided not to take any classes through HCC, please let Mrs. Waggoner know, so she can make the necessary schedule changes.
We look forward to working with your student and Highland Community College to continue to offer these learning opportunities.
Please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Waggoner if you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Lori Fordyce
Hiawatha High School Principal
