Dear high school parents/guardians,
We continue to progress with our new system. By now, all of your children should be working in their classes. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or the school if you have questions or do not believe they have yet begun. If your child is completing their work via packets, packets can be picked up and returned Monday-Friday between 8 am and 4 pm at the high school office. I would like to express my appreciation to my staff for all they have done for our kids during this bizarre time.
Some tips to help your child be successful with remote learning:
1. Establish a routine. A set time of day to work on school work can help. A dedicated work space can also help.
2. Make a “game plan” for the week. All high school assignments should be posted by Monday evening. Sit down with your child and make an agenda for what they need to accomplish each day to complete all their weekly learning activities. This can help especially if students are working or have other obligations they must all fulfill that week. Time management and organization are keys with remote learning.
3. Have open communication lines with your child daily to ask about their progress.
4. If your child’s classes are on google classroom, you can contact their teachers and ask that you be granted guardian privileges (you will receive updates for assignments, due dates, etc for that class)
5. The district has established a Continuous Learning link via the district webpage:
http://www.hiawathaschools.org/hiawatha-high-school-continuous-learning. Here you can find emails and office hours for your child’s teachers. Office hours are dedicated times each day that students can expect things to be graded, feedback provided, emails responded to, video chats scheduled, quizzes unlocked, etc.
6. If your child is experiencing issues with their USD 415 laptop, please have them contact the high school.
Meals continue to be offered at various locations around our school district. I would encourage you to take advantage of this service. It is available to any child ages 1-18 years old in our district. We have also begun the district wide process of checking in on each of our families. Our hope is to provide additional non-academic support through this undertaking.
I continue to welcome ideas on celebrating our seniors that abide by the CDC guidelines of no more than 10 people gathered together in one place (indoors or outdoors).
