Hello Red Hawk Parents and/or Guardians,
We are nearing the end of our first week of our continuous learning plan. Although a new platform of learning for most, students and teachers are doing an exceptional job troubleshooting and working through any obstacles that arise. That being said, if your student is experiencing any technical difficulties and/or issues with his/her chromebook, please use the student technology assistance form located in each Google Classroom and on the district webpage. On another note, many students have found that simply rebooting their chromebook often fixes the problem.
If your student has not logged into their email or Google Classroom, he/she is missing out on critical information. If you are unsure as to whether your student has been actively engaged with his/her teachers this week, please feel free to reach out to the teacher directly via email. If you do not have internet access, please call our school office at 785-742-4172 and we can assist you. Again, if you do not have internet access or are experiencing ineffective connectivity, please let us know as soon as possible so that we discuss other avenues for learning essential standards. For easy access to teachers’ email addresses and/or office hours, please visit: http://www.hiawathaschools.org/o/hiawatha-schools/page/hiawatha-middle-school-continuous-learning.
Once again, your partnership with the school is greatly valued and appreciated. Please continue to encourage your student to be proactive with coursework and questions. It may be highly beneficial to assist your student in outlining a schedule and/or a plan for time management during these next seven weeks of school. With emails and notifications arriving from multiple classes, we understand that this can present a very frustrating situation. Please visit with your student about Google Classroom settings in order to best meet your family’s needs. As I stated in my previous letter, much of our focus throughout the remainder of the school year will be aimed at encouraging participation and effort. We appreciate your willingness, persistence and hard work in helping to guide/teach your child. Keep up the great work!
Our last day of the semester for 5th, 6th and 7th grade will fall on May 20th, while the 8th graders will finish up a bit early on the 15th. At this point, we are still trying to determine the best avenue to recognize our 8th grade students and corresponding promotion ceremony. I will be sending an email to all 8th grade students, asking for ideas and feedback.
Please continue to check on your child’s emotional well-being, as all are enduring many changes at a rapid pace. Above all, take care of each other and strive to remember what’s most important, even on your most challenging days.
You are in my thoughts,
Mrs. Gatz, HMS Principal
