Career and Life Planning - SEMESTER COURSE/.5 CREDIT: This course will introduce students to the skills and strategies helpful in becoming more focused and productive individuals. The course will emphasize goal-setting, decision-making, managing time, energy, and stress; and identifying alternatives and coping strategies. Students will also explore various career and lifestyle choices.
Human Growth and Development B - YEAR-LONG COURSE/1.0 CREDIT: This course will provide students with knowledge about the physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development of humans from conception to old age and information on the occupations associated with meeting the needs of people. In addition, this course will help students discover how individuals respond to the various stages of the life span, with a strong tie to teen years, adulthood, and later years.
Foundations to Early Childhood Development - YEAR-LONG COURSE/1.0 CREDIT: This course will provide students with knowledge about the physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development of children from conception to pre-school age, emphasizing the application of this knowledge in child care settings. Topics will relate to appropriate care of infants, toddlers, and young children.
Family Studies - SEMESTER COURSE/.5 CREDIT: This course will emphasize building and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships among family members and other members of society. The course will emphasize topics such as social/dating practices, human sexuality and reproduction, marriage preparation, parenthood and the function of the family unity, and the various stage of life. Other topics may include those related to individual self-development, career development, personal awareness, and preparation for the responsibilities of a family member and wage earner.
Teaching as a Career - YEAR-LONG/1.0 CREDIT: This course will introduce students to the principles underlying teaching and learning, the responsibilities and duties of teachers, and the techniques of imparting knowledge and information. This course will expose students to information and training on classroom management, student behavior, leadership and human relations skills, assessment of student progress, teaching strategies, and various career opportunities in the field of education.
2019-2020 Hiawatha High School Master Schedule
Students have four classes plus an advisory period each day. School days alternate between A days and B days. If a teacher has two lines of classes, the first line is a first semester class, and the second line is second semester class. Parents, your students know how this schedule works. Please ask them :).
